It pays to speak up!

The writer of this blog post probably didn't think she'd be getting a personal comment from Conscious Enlightenment's CEO when a cigarette ad in Conscious Choice magazine royally pissed her off. Given the timing of the ad with the Gaiam investment, I can certainly understand her perspective (and tried to share mine with her).

But here's what Chris Miglino said in response:

"Before Gaiam made an investment into CE we were majority owned by one individual. This investor wanted us to run the ad. We kicked and screamed but to no avail... I can assure you that Gaiam would never have had us run this ad and they turn down opportunities all the time that do not match their social commitment. This is why we are so excited to be part of their company."

In any transition there are fears and worries, and uncertain futures. But for the same reason Chris (whom I met in Boulder last month when we were discussing future directions) is excited that we're part of Gaiam, so am I. Big enterprises walk a different path, but they're not inherently bad; and I believe that all of us in this new combined enterprise mean to do good.
